Directing film and television is like white-water rafting. It’s high-stakes, you commit every resource, stretch yourself to the limit. For most directors, the excitement they feel about a new projects tightens into anxiety when it comes to working with actors.
This course is about establishing deep and creative collaborations with your actors, getting the most out of rehearsals, troubleshooting poor performances and giving clear, effective directions. We will discuss what constitues a good performance, what the actors want from a director, common mistakes of directors, analyzing a script together with your actors, what makes actors tick and the two most important relationships on set: actor with actor and actor with director.

1. Week one: Directors Act:
Directors learn acting techniques and the understanding of the craft. They learn the four steps to rehearse and prepare any scene successfully. They will act an example scene and learn about how to motivate actors.
2. Week two: Result-oriented direction and quick fixes:
Invited actors will need to be directed. We will give each director the topic and they need to create a scene on the spot directing their actors. (Directors bring one of their own scenes, create a scene on the spot or are given a scene to direct with their actors)
3. Week three – Script Analysis and Rehearsals:
The directors pick their actors from the pool of talent at the Miami Acting Studio and work together on analyzing their short film script, will rehearse scene together on stage.
4. Week four: Rehearsals and Final Scene Performance:
The directors had time to prepare the scene in depth and now present their directing work in front of the camera. All directors will shoot and direct their scenes. We will provide camera and equipment.

#DJsforObama at the Wynwood Walls
On Saturday, April 21st, 2012, 2-8pm, Gen44, Florida Finance Committee and an all star cast of DJs for Obama will host a Block Party at Wynwood Walls, 2528 NW 2nd Avenue, in Wynwood , Midtown Miami in support of Obama Victory Fund 2012.
Wynwood Walls will be filled with a vibing playlist of the music and culture of Miami. The Block Party will feature some of South Florida’s leading spin masters and radio personalities in the media and entertainment industry, such as DJs Griot, Africa, Papa Keith, Stryke, Austin Cohen, Lady B, Barrie Hype, Delano of Renaissance Disco, Beat, Brimstone 127, Dorenzo, Eternal Vibes, Fly Guy, House Arrest, Selectah Infamouz of Natural Mystic Soundsation, Kauze, Maestro, Niko Star, Pablo of Hardcore Movements, Lady Terra, Selecta AJ, Trooklyn, and Peter T playing the best of R&B, pop, Latin, hip-hop, reggae, soca, konpa hits.

if I only had known this one year ago, five years ago – I would be at a total different place in my work and life right now ?
Getting good advice and more useful information sometimes seems really hard in this industry and second sometimes we are not ready to understand the advice, because we are just to stubborn and jump ship way to fast.
“I want results now. I want instant gratification, but I don’t want to be responsible for me life and success” is what I hear a lot.
For me everything changed when I started to teach acting 4 nights a week (and that’s been going on with just a few sick days) for the last 13 years. I had to start “living” what I teach – or I would just be a really bad coach and couldn’t life with myself. I had to be successful, just to prove that it can be done.
So every night I had to motivate myself, do the 3 R’s, and focus focus and learn and Research more about Emotions.
I believe that watching my EMOTIONAL STATE every day is and was the KEY to my success. If I, Ralph, don’t feel excited about my life, ashamed because I am not a millionaire, ashamed because of ANY comparison my wicked mind comes up with – I will not be creative, I will not CREATE more work and I will not make more money.
This year I am trying to make the LIFE PLANNING WORKSHOP clearer and better then ever before and I hope that these three hours ( or a little more) will have the same profound impact on your life, your work, your financial situation and your relationships.

Ralph Kinnard is an award-winning actor’s director, with extensive work experience in three different countries and their cultures: Germany, the USA, and Venezuela. He has had an outstanding career as an acting coach and over the last 13 years has worked with talent from South America and the USA. Additionally, as a filmmaker, he is the winner of several prestigious awards coaching over 1000 actors, artists and businesses.
His latest feature, “A MI ME GUSTA,” participated in 12 international festivals and received several award nominations, winning three as “Best Director” (L.A. Arpa Film Festival, NYC SF Festival, and Mexico International Film Festival). Mr. Kinnard brings a unique global view to his projects.
Born in Germany, where he began his studies, he moved to New York to study at the Lee Strasberg Institute, presenting theater productions. Continuing his education at NYU Film, he started in the field as an Assistant Director and PA in feature productions, among them Woody Allen’s “Celebrities”. A job opportunity through international Latin soap icon Mimi Lazo changed his course to Venezuela, where he worked for several major Latin networks, such as E! Entertainment, Venevision, and RCTV, among others. In 2005 he worked as Creative Director on the Launch of a new network in Venezuela called CANAL I.
Not only did this experience introduce him to the Spanish language, but it also started his process of “transculturation”. This gives him a unique view and skill to communicate to global audiences an insider’s look at these different cultures.
In 2009, he moved to Miami, the gateway to the Americas and Europe, and used his skill to create the Miami Acting Studio, the first spin-off of the Actor’s Studio in Miami. This workspace has quickly become Miami’s premier professional resource center. Over the last 2 years, it has produced over 320 videos of scene studies, giving local actors a tool to showcase their talent in a professional setting nationwide.
Highlights of his career include working for Woody Allen (“Celebrities”), the BBC of London and directing “The Chorus Girl“ and “The Donahue Sisters“ in the Marilyn Monroe Theater in New York. He himself was part of the production of the Actor’s Studio “In search of Strindberg” in 1995.
In 2002 he published his first book “Steps to Acting”, and in 2011 his second book “Actor’s Blueprint”. His Podcast Series is available on Itunes.
His unique approach to teaching emotional intelligence and intuitive intelligence have made him a sought after keynote speaker for international companies such as Bayer, Deutsche Bank, Banco Central Universal, Kraft, Mastercard and others…
